Igniting the spark of genius in every child
We Work to Understand Your Child's Needs
Welcome to The Light Academy, a trading name for The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Covenant of Grace, with the head office at 25 Edgehill Road, Leicester LE4 9EA. We have achieved success in organising diverse child development events, and now, we have embarked on a dedicated project to collaborate with professionals in preparing children for a remarkable start in their development through play and learning.
Choosing the appropriate childcare for your child is of utmost importance, as it lays the foundation for their learning and development in life. Parents take this decision seriously, considering its significant impact. Each child is unique, and their development is individualised. Therefore, having dedicated key persons and a reassuring learning environment plays a crucial role in nurturing capable, confident, and self-assured future leaders.
At The Light Academy (TLA), our dedicated staff go above and beyond to establish a strong and enduring bond with both the children and parents/carers in our care. This commitment enables us to provide additional support to families by offering a convenient pick-up and drop-off service for children. Our flexibility gives parents the reassurance that their children are safe in our care, allowing them to pursue their career aspirations with peace of mind while their little ones flourish in our nurturing environment.
At TLA, we have integrated assembly time into our daily routine, where children engage in singing, prayer with the Pastoral team, and social interactions with one another.
At The Light Academy, we operate throughout the entire year, except during Christmas and bank holidays, providing continuous care for 52 weeks. Our activities are based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, therefore, contributing to the holistic development of the children.
Our curriculum focuses on the seven learning areas as specified by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). These include:
The Prime Area:
- Language and Communication
- Physical development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
The Specific Area
- Mathematics
- Literacy
- Expressive art and design
- Understanding of the world
We know that every child matters, so we ensure they work towards their personalised goals. Also, provide opportunities throughout the day where children can
interact and learn. We also work with professionals such as SENCo, Speech and Language therapists and the Local authority to meet every child’s need.
We welcome feedback and comments that help us reflect on what we do and how to improve. Also, our doors are always open for parents/carers to come and discuss their child’s learning and any concerns they may have. We also operate parent’s evenings termly, allowing parents/carers to meet with their child’s key person to discuss how their child is doing in the setting and agree on the child’s next learning steps.
At the Light Academy, we use an app called “Tapestry”. All parents and guardians will receive regular updates on the child’s learning and development. This is a real-time online application, and the parents/carers can also share the child’s learning journey at home with us using images.
The most crucial step is the love and care given to your child by all the staff.

Mission Statement
-
Our Mission
To provide children with the tools to make the best start in life, ensuring they develop into well-rounded and self-assured individuals, thus empowering them to reach their utmost capabilities.
-
Our Vision
• Every Child Matters – Stay safe, Healthy, Enjoy/Achieve, Economic, Positive contribution. It is the central goal of Every Child Matters and we ensure that every child works towards their personalised goals. • Interaction and learning – All children at TLA are encouraged to interact with one another while they all join the learning activities that are planned by our qualified staff around the EYFS and at age range. We also follow our children’s lead in learning by using the child-led approach. However, as children grow older and as their development allows, staff plan activities that are more adult initiated to help children prepare for more formal learning and school transition. • Your child’s wants and needs – We collaboratively work with parents/carers to ensure needs of their children are met both in the setting and outside the setting • Your expectations – We pride ourselves on meeting expectations where practicable in and around the nursery. • Feedback – Here at TLA, we appreciate feedback and comments which help us to reflect on what we do and how to improve. • Love and care – The most important step is the love and care given to your child by all the staff. • To uphold policies and procedures – We endeavour to make our policies clear to all stakeholders while implementation is simplified.

How to achieve this mission
To give children the very best start in life so as to build well-rounded and confident children to enable them to achieve their full potentials in life.
Our Rooms
Below are the 2 rooms where your children will be learning. While we appreciate the need for substantial spaces for each of our children, we have put adequate measure in place to maximise the space that we have through limited number of children in each of the rooms, having staff on site to help arrange and ensure activities are carried out using age specific equipment.
Toddler (2-3)
Our 2-3 rooms are set up with children’s safety in mind so they can access resources while ensuring their safety. Children learn through play by exploring and learning to make choices at this age. The resources and activities are
carefully structured to enable children to follow their interest in learning.
Preschool (3-5)
Our 3-5 room is structured to enable children to build on the skills they developed in the toddler room. At this age, children are geared towards more purposeful learning as they develop the ability to think for themselves and solve problems, collaborate with peers, gain more independence, and understand the world and how it works.
Outdoor Space
Our outdoor space supports the development of physical skills, develop self-confidence, resilience, independence, and self-esteem while learning. We also have access to local parks where children can explore their natural environment and have adventures.
